The Design Center
In an effort to revitalize a disused area of historic South Boston, the Economic Development and Industrial Corporation (EDIC), a public interest company, purchased a sprawling eight-story building that contains over 1.6 million square feet. The structure, known as Building 114, underwent continuous renovation by TLT Construction Corp. making room for several burgeoning high-tech companies in the Boston area.
Modernizing the vertical transportation of Building 114 represented a unique challenge for engineers. While some freight and passenger elevators were still operable, many were not and had to be removed. These were replaced with seven new Armor freight elevators with 10,000lb. Capacities and six new passenger elevators. |
